Universal Yums: April 2019 – Israel

This month’s snacks came from Israel. It’s not the first time I have tried Israeli snacks as a friend of mine who lives in Tel Aviv once sent me a personalised box. This time the snacks were the Universal Yums choice and it was a mixed bag. Some were great. Some were weird.

Universal Yums: March 2019 – Ukraine

This month’s Universal Yums box came from Ukraine. My Ukrainian colleague assured me that Ukraine is well known for having many chocolate factories and there was indeed plenty of chocolate in the box. There were also a fair few onion flavoured things, which was interesting. Overall it was a mixed box with some very nice snacks and some very average ones. There weren’t many new flavours so it wasn’t the most exciting box.

Universal Yums: February 2019 – Italy

This month’s box came from Italy. It has been the box I could eat the least from because there were so many things with nuts in them. Fortunately Little O was on hand to help me with the eating.

Universal Yums: January 2019 – Germany

This month’s snacks came from Germany. I have actually been to Germany a few times in my previous job. We had offices in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Berlin and Dusseldorf… although I never actually went to the Dusseldorf office. I always enjoyed the food in Germany. I have a particular soft spot for currywurst. I never got to eat many snacks though, so I was excited to try this box.

Universal Yums: Holiday Box 2018

As per tradition the December Universal Yums box was focused on food typically eaten at various holidays around the world. There were some pretty tasty items in the box… and some pretty weird ones that I did not love. Check out what we tasted.

Universal Yums: November 2018 Box – The Netherlands

November’s box came from The Netherlands. The moment I realised where it was coming from I got really excited. My dad is Dutch and I grew up with snacks sent to us from my Oom Coe and Tante Zus (my great aunt and her husband). I have also been to Amsterdam and loved the food. I was not disappointed as this was one of the best boxes we have had so far.

Universal Yums May 2018 Box: The Philippines

This month’s snacks came all the way from The Philippines. I was really excited to try this box because I have never had food from The Philippines before. While the western European boxes are nice, it is much more exciting to taste foods from less familiar places.

Universal Yums April 2018 box: Spain

Last month’s snacks came from Spain. There were some great ones and some weird ones but I would say all in all a good an varied box. This is what we tasted.

Universal Yums March 2018 box: Poland

Despite the fact that my company has an office in Warsaw, I have never managed to go to Poland, something that makes me rather sad. I have heard good things and I really would like to visit one day. In the meantime I am going to settle for some snacks. Read more…

Universal Yums February 2018 box: France

I wasn’t massively excited when I found out February’s box was going to be France. I reckoned it would be a bit boring but I was totally wrong. Pretty much everything in the box was delicious and quite a few bits were things I had never eaten before. The flavours weren’t crazy or anything but they were still great. The French are, of course, known for their cuisine so I probably shouldn’t have been surprised that they pulled it out of the box (see what I did there).

Universal Yums October Box: Belgium

In October Mr O and I tasted snacks from… Belgium! Normally what makes the Universal Yums boxes really exciting is that we get to taste stuff that we have never tasted before or possible even heard of. Even with the South Korean box that we didn’t really like there was a weirdness factor that made it cool.

Unfortunately this is kind of where the Belgian box fell down. it wasn’t that the snacks weren’t nice. It was more that Belgium is maybe a little bit close to home. There was nothing in the box that I hadn’t tasted or seen before, especially since I have quite often traveled to Belgium for work. It just didn’t pack a flavour punch and most of what we tasted was very sweet. Anyway, this is what we had. Read more…

Universal Yums August Box: Colombia

This month Mr O and I tasted snacks from Colombia in our Universal Yums box. Neither of us were particularly keen on the South Korea box so the Colombia box was a really welcome surprise. There wasn’t a single thing in it that we didn’t like, in fact there were several things we absolutely loved. I think we need to go on a food tour of Colombia! As always, pictures and videos are from my Instagram stories, so the quality might not be perfect. Also unfortunately no videos for two of the crisp flavours because WordPress refuses to upload them. Universal Yums July box: South Korea

I received our latest Universal Yums box before we went on holiday but with all the moving we didn’t have a chance to taste anything in it. This time we were treated to snacks from South Korea and the flavours were quite strange. While the Mexican box was bursting with really powerful flavours everything in this box seemed muted and a bit synthetic, which was kind of disappointing. Read more…

Universal Yums June box: Mexico

These days it seems there is a subscription box for almost everything. It all started with beauty samples (and I will admit I briefly got in on that) and then expanded out further and further to products for pets, fitness, children and everything in between. Mr O even gets vinyl from unsigned bands and razor blades. He actually contemplated getting a sock one but seriously, who needs that many socks.
