RECIPE: Chocolate chip banana loaf

Little O regularly eats half a banana and abandons the rest or declares a brown banana too “dirty” to eat, leaving us with a lot of random banana bits. I love banana in things but not raw banana on its own so I’ve been making banana bread to use up the bits. This chocolate chip one is by far the nicest I’ve ever tasted.

Chocolate chip banana loaf

Adapted from Something Swanky

3 – 4 medium overripe bananas

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 1/2 cups flour

1 heaped teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of salt

1 cup chocolate chips (I used mixed dark chocolate and peanut butter chips but I’ve made it with milk chocolate chips too)

Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a loaf tin with greaseproof greaseproof paper.

Mash the bananas in a large bowl. Add the eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla extract and whisk to combine.

Add the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Don’t over mix. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into the prepared tin. Bake in the centre of the oven for 45 – 50 mins or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the loaf comes out clean.

It’s delicious both warm and cold.

  1. My Mum used to make a tasty banana cake. But it didn’t have any chocolate chips. That looks lovely, Abbi. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Banana is such a great flavour. I’m not a fan of raw bananas so this is my favourite way to eat them.

  2. Looks delicious as always.

  3. Yum! Looks great, Abbi. I never think to put chips in with bananas. Strange on my part.

  4. Looks delicious. So sorry I’m behind on your posts.
