My job sometimes lands me with some random perks. On Monday I got to visit the top of the BT Tower and take some photos. For those who don’t know, the BT Tower is one of the features of the London skyline and has variously been known as the GPO Tower, The Post Office Tower and the Telecom Tower.
It was built in 1965 and until 1980 was the tallest building in London and has a revolving restaurant at the top. It used to be open to the public but this ended in 1981 after various security concerns. It still acts as a major communications hub.

I took my first wife to the revolving restaurant for her birthday, around 1975/6.
It had amazing views, but as it was run by Butlin’s, the food was average, though expensive. 🙂

Best wishes, Pete.
That must have been very romantic… although Butlins is not exactly synonymous with fine dining, is it… even when you write everything in French!
The menu given to ‘the lady’ had no prices. They were on the ‘gentleman’s copy of the menu’. 🙂
So old school! Often Mr O gets given the bill when we go out but it’s always me who pays it! 😂
That’s cool. Wasn’t familiar with the BT tower.
It’s a bit of a London icon although with so many big high rises in the City it’s not as impressive as it must have been in its heyday.
Great views!
