23 month update

Age: 23 months
I like: Watching nursery rhymes on YouTube, being swung through the air, playing with cars, singing in the bath, giving kisses, flirting with my neighbours’ daughter through the fence

Sleeping

I wish I could say sleeping had magically improved… but it has not. Little O is still waking up in the night. We are also ending up with some random bedtimes as he’s still not completely ready to drop his nap but often won’t nap till his exhausted… so we end up with late naps leading to late bedtimes. I am sure one day we will look back at this time and laugh. Not right now though and with the new job I am more tired than ever.

Eating

Little O is currently obsessed with butter, which he likes to be served on a ryvita. He gets through about a packet of ryvitas a week. We’re trying to get him to try and enjoy a wider variety of foods but he’s often just not that interested. He eats pretty well at nursery and continues to enjoy plenty of “bobo” milk so I don’t worry too much. I do wish he would stop requesting a banana just because he likes the banana song on Bing and then refusing to actually eat the banana…

Communication and socialisation

Little O is starting to put words together now and will say simple phrases like “there it is” and “where car?”. My favourite thing was when he said “no, daddy!” after catching Mr O snoring the other day. My sentiments exactly! He really enjoys singing and more often than not you can pick out which tune he is going for even if the words are not real words. Favourites are the alphabet song, Twinkle Twinkle, The Wheels on the Bus and Heads, Shoulders Knees and Toes. He recently befriended our neighbours’ four year old daughter through the gate that separates our gardens. He hands her flowers and she hands him ice lollies. His personality emerges more each day and spending time with him becomes more and more fun. Of course like most almost two year olds he can kick off spectacularly when he doesn’t get his way but he’s not too bad of a tantrumer and usually being around him is a joy.

Mobility

Little O becomes more agile every day and is confident tearing around the playground we regularly take him to. He wants to do more and more himself which is a bit tricky on our death trap stairs. The push chair is still a bone of contention as he mostly wants nothing to do with it but is still not ready to be completely free of it. We are going to buy him a little trike that can be steered from the back for his second birthday in the hope that if he thinks he is pedalling himself along that he’ll be more likely to stay in it. Either that or I am going to have to keep buying babychinos to bribe him.

  1. Ah, now he is growing up, I see our likes are finally diverging. I am not fond of being swung in the air, nursery rhymes, or playing with cars. And I best not flirt with any daughters through fences. 🙂
He’s going great guns, and it’s good to see him enjoying life, and you two enjoying him.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. He still really loves boobs though…

      1. Then that makes two of us! 🙂 🙂

  2. Such a lovely little guy!

    1. He’s such a character.

  3. I was pointed in the direction of your blog, and I’m glad I was. What a lovely read. My daughter is 20 months, so it’s nice to read other mums with similar age monkeys! Going to have a read around your blog now 😊 x

    1. Hi and welcome! They’re such fun at this age. Can’t believe he will be 2 in a week!

      1. It goes so quick doesn’t it. Mines also a little boob monster, I wish she would stay this age forever because I love all the cuddles and hearing her say “I love mummy” in her little voice! X
