Christmasathon: Day 1 – 3

For the first three days of Christmasathon Mr O and I decided to watch some TV Christmas specials. I am not going to do big reviews of all of these because a lot of them are only about 25 minutes long and I have so very little free time, so my Christmasathon blogs are going to be a bit more basic… kind of like me.

Day 1: Outnumbered – S3: The Robbers

Set on: Boxing Day
What happens?: Following a burglary The Brockmans are having Granddad round for Boxing Day lunch but end up with rather more guests than they were expecting
Does it snow?: No
Is it heartwarming?:  Sort of
What lessons are learned?: Christmas is all about opening your home to others. Also don;t stick your arm down the back of the radiator.

Day 2: Doctor Who – S4: Voyage of the Damned

Set on: Christmas Eve
What happens?: The Doctor finds himself on a space cruise liner based on the Titanic that is full of malfunctioning robots and rogue crewman… also Kylie and Christmas.
Does it snow?: Sort of
Is it heartwarming?: In places
What lessons are learned?: Hanging out with The Doctor is bloody dangerous. You can make out with a hologram.

Mr. Copper: I shall be taking you to Old London town in the country of UK, ruled over by Good King Wenceslas. Now human beings worship the great god Santa, a creature with fearsome claws and his wife Mary. And every Christmas Eve, the people of UK go to war with the country of Turkey. They then eat the Turkey people for Christmas dinner, like savages!

Day 3: Blackadder’s Christmas Carol

Set on: Christmas Eve/Day
What happens?: In a reverse of the classic tale, Blackadder sees the wicked ways of his ancestors and future offspring and decides to change his current behaviour for the worse.
Does it snow?: Yes
Is it heartwarming?: Definitely not
What lessons are learned?: If you are a Blackadder, it doesn’t matter how you behave things will end in tears.

“Edmund Blackadder, Esq.: Shall I begin the Christmas story?
George, the Prince Regent: Absolutely, as long as it’s not that terribly depressing one about the chap who gets born on Christmas Day, shoots his mouth off about everything under the sun, and then comes a cropper with a couple of rum coves on top of a hill in Johnny Arab land.
Edmund Blackadder, Esq.: You mean *Jesus,* Sire…?
George, the Prince Regent: Yes, that’s the fellow! Keep him out of it. He always spoils the X-mas atmos!”

  1. I would watch Blackadder anything, so have seen and loved that one.
I have never watched Outnumbered. I always find Hugh Dennis overly smug.
I haven’t watched Doctor Who since I was very young, but if I had known Kylie was in it…
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. I love Blackadder!

I totally get what you mean about Hugh Dennis but the kids are so funny, especially as they’re allowed to improv.

Kylie is only in that one episode and even though she’s not my fave, I think she does well.

  2. The Blackadder one still cracks me up.

    1. It’s hilarious! Especially seeing “good” Blackadder.

  3. This is great! Looking forward to the rest of them 🙂

    1. Thank you! Should be at least one more up this week!

  4. MIB

    “Messy Kweznuz” 😛
