One of my mum blogging friends, Alex of Alex’s Baby Blog recently posted her answers to 50 questions to help her readers get to know her better… well not that recently but life is busy, yo! I thought it was a pretty cool idea so I bring you my answers to the same questions and invite you to join in if you fancy.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?
Everything is Illuminated. It’s got everything – humour, tragedy, romance. I never get tired of watching it.
FAVOURITE MOVIE IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS?
FAVOURITE HITCHCOCK FILM?
The Birds. Scared the shit out of me… and I already hated birds.
A BOOK YOU PLAN ON READING?
I have 131 books on my Goodreads to read list. I have no idea what is next will depend on the whim that takes me when I finish my current book.
A BOOK THAT YOU READ IN SCHOOL THAT POSITIVELY SHAPED YOU?
Kringe in die Bos by Dalene Mathee. So it’s an Afrikaans novel, which probably doesn’t help most of my readers but it taught me to really appreciate Afrikaans literature in a way I had not done before.
FAVOURITE TV SHOW THAT’S CURRENTLY ON?
Game of Thrones. I am with Alex on this one.
ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN HOW EXCITED ARE YOU ABOUT LIFE RIGHT NOW?
This is a hard question because I find my life is very up and down at the moment. I am definitely more excited than I was a few months ago now that Little O’s sleep has improved and I feel like I am back in the swing of things with work. Some days it’s a 1… other days it’s probably a 7 or 8.
IPHONE OR ANDROID?
I am definitely an Android girl.
TWITTER OR INSTAGRAM?
Instagram. Anyone who follows me will know I am mad for Instagram stories. I have a Twitter account but I find Twitter to be a bit of a dark place.
WHO SHOULD EVERYONE BE FOLLOWING RIGHT NOW?
Err me… obviously. So you can find out what music I listened to on the train, what outfit I wore to work, what I have been eating and what shenanigans Little O has been up to.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?
Mate… I just like food. Almost all the food. Probably ice cream though and anything with coconut.
LEAST FAVOURITE FOOD?
There is almost nothing I don’t eat. Brussels sprouts? I like anything as long as it’s been cooked well and don’t like stuff that has been cooked badly.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ON YOUR PIZZA?
I have an endless desire to try new things so mostly I want to have a pizza I have not had before. I do always get sucked in by artichokes though.
Is it tragic that it’s water? Preferably with bubbles.
Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Cup ice-cream.
DARK CHOCOLATE OR MILK CHOCOLATE?
COFFEE OR TEA?
Coffee… in a mf bucket please.
WHAT’S THE HARDEST PART ABOUT BEING A MUM?
The self-doubt. I always feel like I am doing it all wrong. Also the sleep-deprivation and having zero mental space of your own.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE BAND?
It’s an ongoing ever changing, evolving thing.
FAVOURITE SOLO ARTIST?
Right now it’s a toss up between Lorde and Lana del Ray.
This also changes all the time but an absolutely enduring favourite is The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen
IF YOU COULD SING A DUET WITH ANYONE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Lana del Ray. I love her so much. I want to wear her as a hat.
IF YOU COULD MASTER ONE INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I want something that makes a lot of noise… like a trumpet.
IF YOU HAD A TATTOO, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
I have lots of tattoos on my arms, leg, belly, shoulder. I would love to get my thighs done though but the council says I have to wait until I have finished breastfeeding.
TO BE OR NOT TO BE?
This question goes on in my head continuously. I guess there is no choice but to be really but by being I feel like I am being forced to participate in something I didn’t agree to, which then makes me want to rebel by not being. Of course then I realise that by having a child I have really bought into the entire concept of “to be” by making another poor sod participate in whatever life actually is. And no, I don’t ever just think about normal things.
DOGS OR CATS?
If I have to choose, cats.
BIRD-WATCHING OR WHALE-WATCHING?
Whale-watching. See above comment about Birds. Those mf-ers…
BEST GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
The rose gold and opal ring Mr O bought be that I lost. I still hate myself.
BEST GIFT YOU’VE EVER GIVEN?
I gave the world Little O as a gift. Also I bought Mr O this epic leather hold-all that he’s been using for years and will probably outlive both of us.
LAST GIFT YOU GAVE A FRIEND?
It is my friend, D’s birthday on Monday and I have gotten her three months of Bloom and Wild so she is going to get flowers delivered once a month. Don’t tell her.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE BOARD GAME?
Really more of a card player but I like a bit of Scrabble.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE COUNTRY TO VISIT?
I very rarely want to go to the same place twice because there are so many other places that still need to be seen so who has time? Based on my travel history though I’ll say South Africa because that’s where my family is and to be fair, there is always cool stuff to see and do.
WHAT’S THE LAST COUNTRY YOU VISITED?
Spain although I will be in Belgium when this gets published.
WHAT COUNTRY DO YOU WISH TO VISIT?
Really want to go to Lisbon soon so Portugal.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?
LEAST FAVOURITE COLOUR?
DIAMONDS OR PEARLS?
Pearls… although I love my diamonds on my wedding and engagement rings.
HEELS OR FLATS?
I wish I didn’t walk like Bambi on ice in heels because I love them.
PILATES OR YOGA?
Tried yoga… it was not a bit of me. Pilates not so much either but more than yoga.
JOGGING OR SWIMMING?
Both are okay but swimming involves a lot of faffing about so probably jogging.
BEST WAY TO DE-STRESS?
Bath. Always a bath. The bath AKA mum-spa is my happy place.
IF YOU HAD ONE SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Teleportation. No more commuting. Could visit whoever I want whenever I want. Appear behind people and scare the living crap out of them.
WHAT’S THE WEIRDEST WORD IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE?
Spurious. Sounds like a disease.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE FLOWER?
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
Watching The State last weekend. There is a scene where a hospital is bombed and they show you lots of destroyed incubators and teeny tiny dead babies… and now I am crying again.
DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
No and it reminds me of constantly being told off at primary school because it was shit.
DO YOU BAKE?
I used to a lot but it is hard with Little O. I have resolved to do more though as my team told me that they heard the main benefit of having me as their PO was that I was going to bring lots of baked stuff and I haven’t and they are sad. I brought them a cheesecake last week and they went mad for it so I better crack on.
WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
I cannot stop analysing everything. It never stops. I am constantly down a rabbit hole of analysis of myself and everyone and everything else around me. I find it impossible just to have feelings without a critical assessment of whether they are valid or not.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST FAVOURITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
This isn’t easy to answer. Not a lot at the moment. I feel like a completely different person since Little O was born and I am not sure what I am good at anymore. I guess the fact that I am logical and practical and get stuff done.
WHO DO YOU MISS MOST?
My old self. I don’t want to be her again but I do miss the feeling I had of knowing who I was and what I wanted.
