The baby chronicles #51: Little O’s first birthday party

Age: Virtually one
I like: Balls, my 360° sippy cup, boobs, shouting
I suppose there is an argument to say that first birthday parties are a bit pointless because the guest of honour has no idea it’s their birthday but I feel like being en entire year old is something that needs to be marked with an event. And even if Little O isn’t bothered by the fact that it’s his birthday, Mr O and I deserve a celebration of surviving our first year as parents and me especially of surviving labour.

We decided to invite friends and family around to join us for a dinosaur themed bbq in our garden. We planned this a few months ago on what I am going to refer to as a wing and a prayer that the weather would be nice.

Fortunately the weather was utterly gorgeous, if not bordering on too warm.

The small humans had a whale of a time in the ball pool, everyone ate loads and Little O was showered in gifts. He won’t remember any of it but I will and I’m so glad we did it.

I made the cake myself.

Mr O worked very hard on the garden in preparation.

There were dinosaurs on everything.

The ball pool was a huge hit.

Not sure Little CMC wanted to share his sippy cup…

  1. What a great party, and I love the cake!
A first birthday is about celebration, not whether he will remember it, as you rightly say.
But you will have this to show him, when he’s old enough to understand.
Congratulations to you all, and Happy Birthday to Little O, from Norfolk.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Thank you! I love looking at pictures of my parties and the cakes my mum made from when I was little so I hope he will too.

  2. Cake is too cute, and looks like you guys had fun! Adorable party. While Baby O won’t remember it, I totally think you guys deserved a survival party 🙂

    1. It was so much fun… although I think he had too much fun because he refused to go to bed until 10pm!

  4. I adore that cake. So inventively made and great for your son.
