The bump chronicles #11: Maternity jeans and the never ending wee

Weeks pregnant: 22
Baby size in vegetables: Spaghetti squash (WTF is a spaghetti squash? Do we get them in the UK? Has anyone ever purchased or consumed such a thing)

For the last week or so I have been wearing maternity jeans. I can still just about wedge myself into my normal jeans but they were starting to get a bit uncomfortable. Initially I tried raiding my closet for some of my fat jeans but they were all too big in the legs/arse and they still sat uncomfortably on the bump.

Spaghetti squash

Apparently this is a spaghetti squash

Having done a bit of research (AKA asking other pregnant women on the BabyCentre forum) I decided to try out H&M’s Mama range. I am quite pleased to say that although they suggest going up a size if you are between 4 and 6 months pregnant that I still comfortably fit into a size 12 and when I say comfortably I am not kidding. Maternity jeans are the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. I may never wear normal jeans again (although I did not appreciate it when one of my male colleagues made the joke that I might never be able to). Unlike my other jeans they don’t push my bump down though so when I have got them on I look like a proper pregnant lady… rather than just someone who might have had too many roast dinners. Fortunately the rest of my clothes are still doing okay… apart from one shirt that I can no longer do up because of my boobs rather than the bump… because nothing other than the jeans has really appealed to me so far. Is it wrong to want to be stylish, sexy and pregnant all at once?

Maternity jeans FTW! (Ignore random trainer and coat hanger)

In other news I am starting to wonder just how much one woman can realistically pee (and yes, I know it is only going to get worse). I used to be a bit like a camel and make very few bathroom breaks but now I feel like I am never out of the bathroom. In fact Mr O seems to think that my most used phrase is, “I need a wee.” This is not helped by the fact that Little O is particularly fond of booting me in the bladder for several hours of every day. There are days where I have a wee before I get in the shower and need another one by the time I get out. How am I making so much liquid when I haven’t been consuming any more than usual? Apparently not only am I weeing for two but my enlarged uterus is likely to be pressing on my bladder and there are hormones at work. Better get used to it. At least the maternity jeans are easy to get up and down!

  1. I know I’m late to the party but CONGRATULATIONS! I’m really enjoying reading the Bump Chronicles and you look great!

    1. abbiosbiston

Thank you! Really glad you’re enjoying them!

  2. Few things are as awesome as being totally comfortable. Meh, sometimes you can find such cool stuff for maternity wear, and other times you look at the stuff and wonder who the designers actually think wear these things.

That was a totally uncalled for comment from your colleague. Acceptable humour sometimes goes right over people’s heads.

Now, wtf is a spaghetti squash?! I was Googling that and I haven’t ever seen one! Maybe it is an American thing?

    1. abbiosbiston

I am definitely going to check out ASOS because they’ll definitely have cute stuff. Based on some of the other comments here I think we are missing out on spaghetti squash!

      1. We don’t have spaghetti squash in Finland really either but as I’ve been following more or less less-carbs diet, that thing is often recommended instead of actual spaghetti for casseroles or such.

        1. abbiosbiston

It seems like a very cool thing. I really want to find one now.

  3. Roze

I love spaghetti squash! It’s like a vegetable that gives you spaghetti from its flesh. There’s a video of me on Instagram scooping out the flesh to form spaghetti. Honestly pretty good stuff with some red sauce.

    1. abbiosbiston

It sounds delicious. I need to find one!

  4. I haven’t had spaghetti squash in ages! Thanks for the reminder.

    1. abbiosbiston

I feel like I am missing out massively on the spaghetti squash!

      1. As Ian and I discussed, even if you don’t like to eat it, you can’t deny that its existence is massively cool.

        1. abbiosbiston

Oh absolutely. It’s exactly the kind of thing I’d be impressed by.

  5. You have such a pretty bump 😊
And I loved reading this.. took me back in time to when I had a little spaghetti squash bouncing around on my bladder! 😁

    1. abbiosbiston

Aww thank you! There is a lot of bouncing going on. I was lying in the bath last night and he was actually causing the water around my belly to splash!

  6. Those jeans look so comfortable! And now that your bump is accurately on display as a result of the jeans, hopefully people will be more likely to give you their seat on the tube!!

    1. abbiosbiston

It’s gotten a little better but I am still wearing a big coat which makes it kind of hard to see. I am travelling in half an hour later when it’s a bit less competitive.

  7. jennypugh

Wow, your bump’s so big! It’s so exciting, not long to go now until we meet little O 🙂

abbiosbiston is listening...
