Pesto is one of the most versatile sauces you can make. It works stirred into pasta, as a sandwich or burger topping, a pizza base or just a tasty condiment and while you can get some pretty good jarred versions, none of them come close to home made pesto which is super quick and easy to make. I knocked up this basil pesto for a family braai (bbq) and we ate it with grilled portobello mushrooms and haloumi.
1 1/2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
2 cloves of garlic
1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup pine nuts
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
Add the basil, garlic, parmesan and pine nuts to a blender or food processor and process until well mixed. Slowly add the olive oil while continuing to process. Add salt to taste.
Store in an airtight jar in the fridge.
Makes one cup
Looks healthy, tasty and the recipe is quite simple! Got to try this one 🙂
It’s really versatile and surprising how much flavour comes from such simple ingredients. You won’t be disappointed.
This looks delicious! I’ve been growing basil and I think this is what they’ve been growing to become 🙂 Thanks for the great basil recipe!
It will be even more delicious with homegrown basil! Enjoy!
I love pesto! I even put it on grilled veggies 🙂
It’s so good on grilled veg!
Yum. I will try it — I agree fresh is always better.
And no nasty chemicals!
I haven’t made it for a while and I forgot how much better it is than the jarred variety.
I agree. The ones in jars that I’ve tried have been too salty and/or too oily.
This is actually so much simpler than I thought! I might try this out sometime, moving to eat healthier in life 🙂
It takes about 5 minutes and it’s so much better than shop bought!
I just LOVE pesto! I’ve always bought it at the health food store tho. Never tried making my own before.
It’s really quick and delicious and you can probably make it for cheaper than you can buy it 🙂
Such an easy one and yet I’ve never tried making it..!
You should give it a go. It’s tasty on almost everything!
Yum! I love pesto! Pesto is the besto!
Because no coriander? 😛
This seems so easy, I can’t believe I’ve never tried it! 🙂
It is super easy. I just don’t think many people realise how few ingredients it has.
