100 Days of Happiness: Day 51 – 60

As much as I am still in love with this project I’ve come close to forgetting to take a picture a few times maybe because embracing happiness has become more instinctive and less part of an actual task. Anyway I’ve had another very happy 10 days and this is what I’ve been up to.

Day 51

I take my 5 day a week gym programme very seriously but on some days you have to embrace the fact that it’s sunny, skip the work out and have a beer with your team, which I did on this particular Friday.

Day 52

Of course there is no fun without consequences and I managed to wake up with a hangover but I sucked it up and did two classes back to back. It turns out you can totally sweat out a hangover.

Day 53

image

This year’s summer has been a bit of a damp squib so far but on this particular day it was gloriously sunny so we hung out on our friends, Dawn and Bobby’s balcony, had a few drinks and enjoyed the warm.

Day 54

image

I get to see my bestie, Bronwyn, about once every year or two so when she suggested that we meet her and her husband in Amsterdam for a few days on their way to a conference it was a no-brainer. Here we are outside the Rijksmuseum.

Day 55

image

Mr O and I found an awesome restaurant in Oud Wes called Van’t Spit. It only serves chicken by the half or whole. It was probably the best chicken I have ever had. This is all that was left of our whole chicken.

Day 56

image

I have a strong connection to Amsterdam because both my oupa and my father were born there. I have heard many stories of my oupa’s quests for Dutch cheese after they immigrated to South Africa so I couldn’t resist playing dress-up in the cheese museum.

Day 57

image

My team has been working really hard lately so for a treat we had a pizza party and it was such a blast.

Day 58

image

These delicious cookies are called “stroopwafels” in the Netherlands and they are the confectionery equivalent of crack. I brought loads back.

Day 59

image

It was Mr O’s birthday on Saturday so we went on a guided walk around the East End to learn about Jack, The Ripper. This is our very knowledgeable tour guide, Johnny.

Day 60

Up until yesterday the only form of London transport I hadn’t been on was the cable car from Victoria Dock to North Greenwich so I was very excited when Mr O senior picked it as his father’s day treat. The view from the top is spectacular!

They are amazing. One of my favourite Dutch treats.

  2. So cool! Cheers on the Mexican beer and I love that you took an impromptu visit to Amsterdam!

I do love a Corona. One of the wonderful things about living in Europe is that it’s really easy to have a quick city break. Everything is so close.

      1. One more reason to visit Europe!

  3. Who smokes the Lucky Stripes? 😉

      That would be Bobby.

It’s breakfast time here, but now I want chicken. Ha!

I’m sure you could break the rules.

  5. Love this! That Jack the Ripper tour sounded cool and yes some days beer sounds so much better than the gym.

It was really good. London has such a wide range of great walking tours. It’s a great way to see the city. I went on a Beatles one once that was excellent.

      1. That’s awesome, what a cool tour I had no idea that they did that over there.

It’s very much a walking city. We Londoners love to pound the pavement.
