Last week the lovely Table 9 Mutant over at Cinema Parrot Disco did a post on her top 10 movie crushes. It was such a cool post that I decided to
steal borrow the idea for this week’s top 10 and talk about my movie crushes from over the years. Some are weird…
R in Warm Bodies (2013)
Played by: Nicholas Hoult
Typical or atypical crush: Hard to tell… I mean Hoult is a total hotty (even if he’s like a million years too young for me) but he does look dead for most of the film.
What makes him hot: His total awkwardness and his devotion to Julie against the odds
“R: [voice-over] So much for dreaming. You can’t be whatever you want. All I’ll ever be is a slow, pale, hunched-over, dead-eyed zombie. What did I think was gonna happen? That she’d actually want to stay with me? It’s hopeless. This is what I get for wanting more. I should just be happy with what I had. Things don’t change. I need to accept that. It’s easier not to feel. Then I wouldn’t have to feel like this.“
David Green in School Ties (1992)
Played by: Brendan Fraser
Typical or atypical crush: Typical.
What makes him hot: The eyes… it’s all in the eyes.
“Dr. Bartram: …and the meek shall inherit the earth.
David Green: I wonder how meek they’ll be when they do, sir.“
Tom in (500) Days of Summer (2009)
Played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Typical or atypical crush: Typical
What makes him hot: His sleepy eyes and his fearless approach to love
Tom: It’s official. I’m in love with Summer.
“[while Montage of Summer plays]
Tom: I love her smile. I love her hair. I love her knees. I love how she licks her lips before she talks. I love her heart-shaped birthmark on her neck. I love it when she sleeps.“
Alex in Everything is Illuminated (2005)
Played by: Eugene Hutz
Typical or atypical crush: Pretty atypical
Why is he hot: I honestly have no idea. He really shouldn’t be.
“Alex: Many girls want to be carnal with me… because I’m such a premium dancer! “
Westley in The Princess Bride (1987)
Played by: Cary Elwes
Typical or atypical crush: Typical
What makes him so hot: Not only is he a stone cold fox but he’s also brave, strong and very, very smart
“Westley: Hear this now: I will always come for you.
Buttercup: But how can you be sure?
Westley: This is true love – you think this happens every day?“
Dean Moriarty in On the Road (2012)
Played by: Garrett Hedlund
Typical or atypical crush: Typical but so wrong
What makes him hot: He is just so alive… even if he is quite possibly the worst partner ever
“Dean Moriarty: Yes, yes, yes, I gotta go now, fever Sal. Goodbye.“
Louis Simo in Hollywoodland (2006)
Played by: Adrien Brody
Typical or atypical crush: Atypical
What makes him hot: He’s really sleazy but he’s so charming
“Louis Simo: Lady, I can nail you with this.
Leonore Lemmon: D’Artagnan, you couldn’t nail me with roses and a trip to Vegas.”
Patrick Verona in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Played by: Heath Ledger
Typical or atypical: Typical… this is when everyone fell in love with him
What makes him hot: He’s the perfect bad boy, wild, dangerous, edgy but kind and sensitive underneath the hard exterior
“Kat Stratford: You can’t just buy me a guitar every time you screw up, you know?
Patrick: Yeah, I know. But then, you know, there’s always drums, and bass, and maybe even one day a tambourine.“
Don Juan in Don Juan DeMarco (1994)
Played by: Johnny Depp
Typical or atypical: Typical
What makes him hot: It’s Johnny Depp! Also Don Juan is the ultimate romantic
“Don Juan: By seeing beyond what is visible to the eye. Now there are those, of course, who do not share my perceptions, it’s true. When I say that all my woman are dazzling beauties, they object. The nose of this one is too large; the-the hips of another, they are too wide; perhaps the breasts of a third, they are too small. But I see these women for how they truly are… glorious, radiant, spectacular, and perfect, because, I am not limited by my eyesight. Women react to me the way that they do, Don Octavio, because they sense that I search out the beauty that dwells within until it overwhelms everything else. And then they cannot avoid their desire, to release that beauty and envelope me in it. So, to answer your question, I see as clear as day that this great edifice in which we find ourselves is your villa. It is your home. And as for you, Don Octavio DeFlores, you are a great lover like myself, even though you may have lost your way and your accent. Shall I continue?“
Chaucer in A Knight’s Tale (2001)
Played by: Paul Bettany
Typical or atypical crush: Atypical, especially in a movie that stars Heath Ledger as a knight
What makes him hot: Wit, confidence, his incredible bone structure
“Chaucer: You’re good. You’re very good. My lords, my ladies, and everybody else here not sitting on a cushion!
Chaucer: Today… today, you find yourselves equals.
Chaucer: For you are all equally blessed. For I have the pride, the privilege, nay, the pleasure of introducing to you to a knight, sired by knights. A knight who can trace his lineage back beyond Charlemagne. I first met him atop a mountain near Jerusalem, praying to God, asking his forgiveness for the Saracen blood spilt by his sword. Next, he amazed me still further in Italy when he saved a fatherless beauty from the would-be ravishing of her dreadful Turkish uncle.
Chaucer: In Greece he spent a year in silence just to better understand the sound of a whisper. And so without further gilding the lily and with no more ado, I give to you, the seeker of serenity, the protector of Italian virginity, the enforcer of our Lord God, the one, the only, Sir Ulllrrrich von Lichtenstein!
Chaucer: Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all week.“
