Film study… week 34

Iron Man 2
Source: Tesco DVD rental

Tony Stark AKA Iron Man (Robert Downey Jnr) is back saving the world and being a self-absorbed dickhead. I think we’re supposed to think he’s tortured and damaged but really he’s just a bit of a knob. Of course to spice up the action we’ve now got a lightning whip wielding villain in the shape of Mickey Rourke, who might need to do a little more work on his Russian accent.

How YOU doing?

The Royal Tenenbaums
Source: Sky Indie

Destitute and alone, Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) decides to reunite his family of oddball prodigies by inventing a terminal illness. This weird little cult indie film is packed with stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, both Wilson brothers, Angelica Huston, Danny Glover, Bill Murray and Ben Stiller and despite its strangeness its portrayal of family tensions is identifiable to anyone with a family.

Did you ever feel like there was a falcon in the room?

Everlasting Moments
Source: Sky Indie

A battered Swedish wife rediscovers  a camera she won in a lottery before she got married and in so doing discovers a way to escape the drudgery of her daily life. This true-life sweeping family saga explores the nature of love and duty and the moments that change our lives, with a beautiful subtlety. Must see.

When Sebastian started talking about football Maria knew it was time to put her foot down

Prince Of Persia
Source: Sky Premiere

Who knows what Jake Gyllenhaal was thinking when he took this one on… maybe he was feeling the credit crunch. This film is based on a video game and boy does it show. It’s low on storyline and high on action and bad accents and somehow very few of the Persian characters look even vaguely Persian but then again… this is Disney. Possibly fabulous fun for seven year olds but if you’re older than seven, I’d suggest watching something else… anything else…

Can we get a tan artist up here... I'm just not feeling beach-ready today!

Hahaha, I actually love Prince of Persia. I’ve seen it like three times lol. I’ve got a weakness for that kind of dodgy sword & sandal type stuff o_o
